Christmas Wishes …

As Christmastime again approaches – we would like to share among all of our loved ones, all of the usual well wishes, cheers, and gifts traditionally shared at this time of year.  Many times, folks think only of the material gifts[i], but we’d like to take a little time to pass on some wishes, and some ideas, of the specific gifts that we would like to give you:

From Annie:  Tolerance of other’s ideas, thoughts, processes, and beliefs.  I have discovered that a lack of tolerance toward those around you, not only ruins your day (or week), but also adversely effects all of those around you.  We need to recognize and celebrate the differences among us – rather than chastise, make fun of, or shun those that are different from what we perceive as “normal”!  Tolerance will build friendships where you didn’t think any were possible.  In my preparation for this article, I am reminded that what is now considered normal and accepted was once the new, strange, and unfamiliar.  Now, I’m NOT suggesting that you accept everything that is thrown at you, rather – I wish for each of you, a great amount of tolerance in dealing with and learning about those which are unfamiliar and different from what you perceive as normal before you make decisions which could impact further relations.

From Bubba:  Loyalty and the true value of friendship!  There’s an awful lot of good that comes from having, and being, a loyal and true friend!  I’ve got my BC crew and family, and a few other folks that don’t live on the place, that I know, without a doubt, have my back and will go to extreme measures to help me be the best dang Bubba that I can be!  Therefore, in return – I’ll definitely pull out all the stops to help these buds accomplish their goals and desires – this thing really has the potential to steamroll and cast happiness and good fortune among us all!  Ain’t that cool!!!  So, I wish for all of you the ability to fully appreciate and acknowledge the true value of the friends that you have around you (even when they do things that annoy you - like when Annie takes my treat!) and treasure that friendship with a passion and strong loyalty!  I know that I do!!

From Gall:  A self-satisfaction of doing the best possible job, of being you, that you can do.  I think that you need to stop excessively worrying about the goals and benchmarks placed by others with respect to the tasks that are assigned to you.  It’s my experience that if you’ll place the majority of your energy into being the best possible you, that you can be, that the expectations placed on you by others, will not only be fulfilled, but will ultimately be exceeded!  Now, I do have a word of caution that accompanies this wish – you really do have to watch what crowd that you’re running with, and realize that there are just some tasks that a girl[ii] (even a super star BC) just can’t get done, and that’s ok too!  If you’re in a place and a situation where you are genuinely happy, and you focus on being the best dang ol’ you that you can be … you WILL BE successful at it … but, if you’re not in a spot where you are basically happy – you’ll likely not succeed at your assigned tasks.  I wish for all of you to wake up, every day, in a place where your star can shine AND that you seize, every day, all of the opportunities to be the best YOU that YOU can be!

From Patches:  An acceptance of what is, with no time wasted on thoughts of what might’ve been!  All of you know that I am the crippled BC of the group … but after my accident, I very quickly realized that there wasn’t really anything that I could do to change my predicament.  So I began to figure out how I could proceed and make the best of it.  I relied on the tolerance of my siblings and mom (and the humans too) – i.e., my friends - and just set out to be the best three legged dog on this place that I love so much!  Guess what??!!  I have been VERY SUCCESSFUL!!  Dad says that I am the happiest Buppy on the place!  It took a little bit of time (and on rare occasions, I still fall down) – but I don’t lament my bum leg or hurting hip, I don’t ever (anymore) wonder about what if … I live in “the now”[iii] and it gives me one of the most shiniest perspectives on life that a girl can have!  So my greatest wish for each and every single one of you is to have the ability to accept “what is” for what it is!  If you can change it, CHANGE IT!  If you can’t, figure out how to turn it to your advantage[iv] and do the “army thing”[v]!!

From Rooney:  Unconditional love and support, back to all of those that love and support you.  Every day, and every thing isn’t easy (and it’s not supposed to be, that would take all the fun out of it - now, wouldn’t it?!), but if we love and support those around us – every day can be joyous!  If humans could just remove their varied prejudices, a little bit of their pride, and learn how to love like a dog does – they, and this ol’ world, would be so much better off – don’t you reckon?  I wonder if that’s what heaven is like?!!  I wish for all of you the ability to love, support, and appreciate those around you with much more understanding and patience.

.

.

It’s our collective thought that with Tolerance, Loyalty/Friendship, Hard Work, and an Acceptance of who you are, that you can get as close to Unconditional Love that humans can get to.  When this fivesome[vi] is met … we believe that you’ll probably find true happiness – and that is our ultimate wish and prayer for each and every one of you this Christmas Season![vii]

And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.  Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.  For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.  And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

[i] We have many recorded events in history that show the giving and receiving of gifts dates back at least to the 4th century. St. Nicholas, a Christian Bishop, was known for his generosity in giving to those less fortunate than he, as well as giving to children of all backgrounds simply because he felt they needed to savor their childhood, and have joyous times to remember (contrary to the beliefs of that time, which would suggest that boys even as young as 8 be sent to work to help earn income for their families and girls as young as 5 to help their mothers with the housework and meal preparation). The most common gift given were homemade foods and sweets, oranges (this was a huge treat due to the fact they were very rare), handcrafted gifts such as socks, sweaters, dresses, nightgowns, blankets, tables, chairs, and other handmade useful items. This tradition began with St. Nicholas in Turkey. It moved throughout the world very quickly, and before the 10th century it is supposed that nearly every country was participating in this exchange.  http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_and_when_did_the_tradition_of_exchanging_Christmas_gifts_start

[ii] I gotta be a PC BC now – you DO understand that this applies DOUBLY to boys, don’t you!!

[iii] Will I cling today to "what if" and "if only," doubling their stolen life? Will I trade another day for one long past? Who among us can pull themselves backwards, along the eternal line of time?  The ego wants you to believe in missed opportunities. The spirit knows that each instant is a new opportunity, unlike any before it or any to come.  Dean Jackson http://www.lifeinthenow.com/

[vii] It is our hope that on your way to unconditional love and true happiness, that you will also consider giving others that ultimate gift – the gift of life!  Make sure that you are registered with the DPS and have also discussed your wishes with your friends, family, and loved ones (especially your Buppies!)!  http://www.OrganDonor.gov
