The Border Collie Chronicles

Observations from (arguably) the World's Smartest Dogs;
(but, without question, the bestest friends!)
or, Life As We Understand It, as told from dad's shop.

How to Clean ... the Toilet

From a Dog's perspective

  1. Put both lids of the toilet up and add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the water in the bowl.

  1. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

  1. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close the lid.

  1. The cat will self-agitate.  You may need to stand on the lid and give the cat time to make ample suds.  Never mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this!

  1. Flush the toilet three or four times.  This provides a "power-wash" and "rinse".

  1. Have someone open the front door of your home.  Be sure that there are no people or animals between the bathroom and the front door.

  1. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift the lid.

  1. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom, and run outside where he will dry himself.

  1. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling clean.

Not related at all to the cleaning instructions provided above, but ... today is Patriot Day (known in full as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance) which occurs on September 11 of each year and is designated in memory of the 2,977 killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.  Initially, the day was called the Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001, but was changed.

Wow … that was 13 years ago!  Anyone old enough to be reading this can probably answer Alan Jackson’s question “Where Were You”?

Dad has ‘splained to us that he was on his way to Pecos for a Debt Settlement meeting with the Reeves County Committee.  He heard the news on the “Bob and Tom Show” while enroute – he knew fairly quickly that it wasn’t a joke, because those guys kept stressing that it wasn’t!  Their message was sincere and heartfelt!!  Well, dad was the first to tell the Reeves COC and after he presented his file, he left and went to the local bank there in Pecos.  They had a TV in the lobby at the time, and dad watched the replays of the planes hitting the buildings – indelible images in his mind!  When he got back to his office, he was informed that the government was closing for the rest of the day – well, it was his and his friend (and co-worker’s) birthday that day, and since mom-D and Lori had planned on getting pizza for lunch –the office went to dad and mom-D’s house, watched the chaos, ate pizza and tried to celebrate birthdays!

Today, we should again pray for those innocent victims that lost their lives that day, and celebrate and pray for the heroes that perished while getting things back under control on that fateful day.  It is definitely a mixed day … pray for those in sorrow, praise those heroes that gave all, pray that we will regain our backbone and strength, and praise those that are serving in that endeavor!!!

May God BLESS America!!!!

Here are some pretty deep quotes to Ponder on!!!!

Our heroes are those... who... act above and beyond the call of duty and in so doing give definition to patriotism and elevate all of us.... America is the land of the free because we are the home of the brave.

David Mahoney

The people can always be brought to the bidding of their leaders. All you have to do is tell them that they are in danger of being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.

Hermann Goering

True patriotism sometimes requires of men to act exactly contrary, at one period, to that which it does at another, and the motive which impels them the desire to do right is precisely the same.

Robert E. Lee

Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the president.

Theodore Roosevelt

I know [patriotism] exists, and I know it has done much in the present contest. But a great and lasting war can never be supported on this principle alone. It must be aided by a prospect of interest, or some reward.

George Washington

Hey … with regard to the toilet thing, before we get any hate mail …

Cleaning anything involves making something else dirty, but anything can get dirty without something else getting clean.

Laurence J. Peter

… it seems to us that “everybody” comes out of this "deal" clean!
