Thankfulness … (es) …
By The BC Crew

This is the time of year that we all ought to take a little time to pause and reflect on the abundances and bounties that surround us.  We live in the greatest country in the world that provides us with so many liberties and opportunities that we have a tendency to take them for granted, and many in this ol’ world would be delighted to have just a few of what it is we take for granted.  Yeah, we reckon that it REALLY IS time to pause and give thanks … we’re gonna refrain from many of the cliché thanks that you generally see espoused around this time of year in this type of article, and focus on some of the more mundane things … (you may have to refer back to some of our earlier stories if some of our thanks don’t make sense) …

Rooney –

  • I’m thankful that I am able to live with four of my WONDERMOUS pups (and that it is only four…)!!;

  • ‘My’ pond;

  • The “place”;

  • All the readers of this web page;

  • Butt scratches!;

  • Pirates (and all their antics) and, of course, friends that “Ahoy” dad!;

  • Mice;

  • My SelectComfort™ bed (my sleep number is a 35!);

  • Dr. Miller for helping out on that last litter, whew!!;

  • Mi equipo!

Gall –

  • I am thankful for Rabbits;

  • Praise in public;

  • Birds;

  • Mesquite Beans;

  • Something (anything/everything) to chase;

  • My family (most of them … most of the time);

  • Sunday rains (when they happen);

  • Calico cats;

  • The fact that there is very little “funder” in the winter!

Patches –

  • I am thankful for Dr. Fish, Leta, and all the other kind folks at the clinic;

  • Attention of any kind (except yelling);

  • Dad’s grandma co-worker who feeds us sometimes (and even for dad’s other co-worker, and his bride, who forgot once!);

  • Three Wheel Drive (yee haw)!!!;

  • Looking out for endangered fish;

  • The richness of life! (and that speaks volume’s folks!!!)

Annie –

  • I am very thankful for a BIG caliche driveway!;

  • My (mostly) single occupant, three room doggy condo;

  • Bubba;

  • All the folks at the vet clinic, and especially for Dr. Fish since he finally walked me on the caliche!;

  • The heater in the shop when it gets cold outside;

  • Red solo cups!;

  • Dad’s neighbor (and my bestest friend) who feeds us sometimes and always has time for me!

Bubba –

  • I am thankful for dad’s shop (since I’m not allowed in his office that is in the house);

  • That my head isn’t any bigger than it is!;

  • The Zune;

  • My Mom and sisters;

  • Water of any kind (I mean, drinking or swimming);

  • Billy Currington for singing that song about me and dad;

  • Mother Goose and Grimm cartoons!  (that Grimmy is one sharp dude)!;

  • My friend Mr. Toad (though I haven’t seen him in a while);

  • That the Easter Bunny just comes once a year!

Mom D –

  • I am thankful for freedom, it is something we do not want to loose;

  • Each one of my dogs, they have the great ability to tell wonderful stories;

  • The dog’s dad, my go to man, the one that helps with all my stuff;

  • Friends, without whom I would be totally lost;

  • My Mom, who keeps me on my toes and lets me know I am loved;

  • My Brother, who makes me want to scream but know he means a lot to me;

  • My Family, since my family is so small I am thankful for dad’s and the Herschaps, they keep me going!!

Dad –

  • I am thankful for my family, my friends, my buppies, my mom-D …;

  • Health, Love, Friendships;

  • Being part of my dad’s 80th Birthday;

  • The chance to be around some “young ones” – they are the future of the future!;

  • Coors Light;

  • My windmill;

  • Good Music;

  • An opportunity to freely express my thoughts, concerns, and fears;

  • My favorite koozie;

  • Fabiola;

  • One Night In October (and countless other past adventures - and those to come)!!

Of course, it goes without saying that all of us (including dad) are extremely grateful to mom-D for all of her fussin, nursin, feedin, loving, and treat buyin!! – well, in short, her LOVE!  And, of course, we can’t forget our bestest dad-buddy (I guess that would be a duddy - in dad speak!)!!  We’d also like to give Thanks! to all of yall and to let you know that we wish each and every one of you nothing but the absolute best and a continued abundance of bounties, opportunities, and happiness that are available as we begin this Holiday Season!

Here are some quotes to ponder on:

If winter is slumber, and spring is birth, and summer is life, then autumn rounds out to be reflection.  It's a time of year when the leaves are down and the harvest is in and the perennials are gone.  Mother Earth just closed up the drapes on another year and it's time to reflect on what's come before.

Mitchell Burgess, Northern Exposure, Thanksgiving, 1992

Thanksgiving is a typically American holiday...The lavish meal is a symbol of the fact that abundant consumption is the result and reward of production.

Ayn Rand (1905 - 1982)

I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new.

Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
