The BC “State of the Place”
By The BC’s
Editor’s Note: We’ve
been watching an extraordinary amount of TV in the shop here recently
and we just watched the “State of the Union” and thought that we owed it
to all of our readers (yeah, right!! J)
to update everyone on our goings on!
Well happy (belated) New Year!
We didn’t write too much last year … kinda getting lazy, we suppose. Well,
since we can’t report on any tremendous projects (except the
half-finished swimming pool) or activities that we accomplished or even
undertook – we guess that laziness – or maybe it was
contentment – might have to be the answer!
We got back up to “5” in 2018 (thanks again to the fine folks at ABCR)
and we’ve all got our self-appointed positions around this place:
Sissy: I
rescued this crew last February – I came to the place from the Houston
area (via Blanco). Like Merritt, I’m not talking much
about my past, but dad has figured out that I have a passion about ropes
… don’t leave any kind of rope
laying around – I will chew it into as many pieces as I can … and I am
not playing around – this is dang serious stuff! Don’t get
to thinking that I am destructive – ropes are the only thing that I do
this to – I have full privileges in the living room, unsupervised. Other
than ropes, I am adjusting pretty well into my new home. I
love Merritt to pieces, but unfortunately – that love is not
reciprocated! Taffy and I are pretty tight though – we
play all of the time (though she wears out before I do). Mr.
Bubba and Ms. Annie tolerate me for the most part, but ol’ Bubba is
warming up more and more! I still don’t really understand
why I can’t go back into the rest of the house, but … (shhhh! Don’t
tell dad) … I do sneak back there fairly often to check it out! Hey
folks … dreams DO come true!
Taffy: What
can I say? Dad is always saying that I am the happiest and
most loving dog on the place! But I still don’t understand
that FUGLY reference??! I tell you what though … life is
pretty, plenty dang good! Yes Sir!! All of
my siblings just love me to pieces – I am the only one (except dad) that
Merritt will even consider playing with. Bubba and Annie
are extremely tolerant of me, often overlooking my exuberance when I
step on, or trip over, them as I am racing to enjoy my life. Sissy
is my shadow – but she is mostly just waiting to “work” me. I
love it when we all go outside, and I love it when we all come inside …
HECK … I just love this wonderful life! Ain’t it great!!
Merritt: As
the mostly uncontested matriarch, I am proud to report that the “State
of the Place” is well protected, safe, and happy! We have
a beautiful, strong fence surrounding the place with a wonderful gate
to, not only let people in – but to also keep certain people out! And
that’s ok! Despite being the primary authoritarian around
the place – all of the BCs around here love me (particularly Sissy and
Taffy). Bubba and I have developed a pretty deep
friendship and camaraderie over our common love – dad! We
both came to the realization that since we both want to be close by and
helping our favorite two leg, that we’d better get along well (and he
pretty much demands that anyway). Ann and I have a mutual
respect and admiration for each other. As you know, I’m
not sharing much info about my pre-West Texas time … and I will tell you
that life IS really more better
than good! Semper Fidelis dude!!
Bubba: Hey
everybody! As one of the two longest tenured BC’s on this
place, I can assure you that ALL is SPECTABULOUS!! I
have the place more than adequately secured (except if I have to get too
close to the front fence … I’m still hesitant to get to close up there …
but Annie is too – so I am not really a scaredy-dog!) One
notable change this year is that the mail person (it is a guy, but Annie
tells me that it’s not PC to say mailman anymore) now comes by every
day! I just know that he loves me lumbering toward him
while barking my most ferocious bark! Well, anyway, I hope
he enjoys it as much as I do! I now sleep back in the
bedroom every night – right on the rug beside dad. Not
only do I protect dad – but Merritt and mom-D also get the benefit of my
most valuable services. While I really miss mom-R,
Patches, and my sweet girlfriend Gall – I can assure you that all is
good around the place! Annie: I’m a girl of few words, but believe me now, and hear me later, I am taking care of this whole stinking crew and the entire place – all the time – and I LOVE my job! Since Bubba and Merritt seem to wander the whole house whenever they please – I have decided that I can too (that is, when I want to)! I generally enjoy my indoor spot behind the couch where mom-D regularly sits/sleeps/vegges out, but I have also taken to sleeping on one of the anti-fatigue mats in the kitchen. I echo my sister and colleague – life REALLY is good folks! |

Some Thoughts To Ponder ... |
|
You can say any foolish thing to a dog, and the dog will give you a look that says, ‘Wow, you’re right! I never would’ve thought of that!
Dave Barry
A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves
himself.
Josh Billings
The world would be a nicer place if everyone had the ability to love as
unconditionally as a dog.
M.K. Clinton
The better I get to know men, the more I find myself loving dogs.
Charles de Gaulle
The only creatures that are evolved enough to convey pure love are dogs
and infants.
Johnny Depp
Why does watching a dog, be a dog, fill one with happiness?
Jonathan Safran Foer
A dog can’t think that much about what he’s doing, he just does what
feels right.
Barbara Kingsolver
A dog will teach you unconditional love. If you can have that in your
life, things won’t be too bad.
Robert Wagner
He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his
life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the
last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.
Unknown
You don’t own a dog, any
more than you own your life. If a dog has any intellect, you are best
to treat your relationship with your dog as a partnership. It is all
right that you have a majority ownership in the partnership – just
remember that it IS a
partnership. He (she) does have the option of quitting you. Dad |
